Short Biography

I joined the Hypermedia Research Unit in September 2007 as a research student under the supervision of Douglas Tudhope and Daniel Cunliffe. Having spent a few years working in the industry and private education I returned back to the University of Glamorgan for a PhD study closely associated with the aims of the STAR project (Semantic Technologies for Archaeological Resources.

I have a BSc(Hons) in Multimedia and MSc in E-Learning both obtained from the University of Glamorgan in 2003 and 2004 respectively. My professional career spans from building web-based applications for a DVLA associated e-commerce enterprise in Swansea, to teaching UK higher-education collaborative programmes in Thessaloniki, Greece. My research effort focuses on the use of Natural Language Processing techniques for enriching document indexing of archaeological natural language texts.

Research Interests

  • Information Extraction architectures for enabling semantic-aware access to natural language texts.
  • The role of conceptual reference models and knowledge base resources in Information Extraction.
  • Linguistic heuristics and rule based approaches for extracting relations between ontological entities.
